Confusing about Wolverine from Xmen?

Wolverine has super regenerative abilities and ages at a ridiculously slow rate. That's why he can appear in every xmen movie and he gets to look the same. His appearance in X-men first class seemed to be more of a gag for laughs, than anything else. At least to me.
